What is S2C?
Spelling to Communicate (S2C) is a method designed to help non-speaking individuals communicate effectively.
This approach involves teaching individuals to point to letters on a board to spell out words, allowing them to express their thoughts, needs, and desires.
Why We Say Non-Speaker Instead of Non-Verbal
We prefer the term “non-speaker” over “non-verbal” because “non-verbal” literally means “without words” in Latin. However, many non-speakers have beautiful, complex thoughts and ideas—they simply need an efficient way to express them. S2C provides this pathway, allowing their words to finally be heard and understood.
How S2C Can Benefit Your Child
Unlocking Potential: S2C gives your child a way to communicate that bypasses the difficulties they have with spoken language. This method can reveal their true intellect and potential, often hidden behind their inability to speak or perform complex motor tasks required for assessments.
Enhanced Independence: Through S2C, your child can express their needs and wants more clearly, leading to greater autonomy in daily activities and decisions.
Improved Relationships: Being able to communicate more effectively can strengthen your child’s relationships with family, friends, and educators. You’ll finally be able to understand their thoughts and feelings, deepening your bond.
Educational Opportunities: With S2C, your child can participate more fully in educational settings, sharing their knowledge and engaging in discussions they were previously unable to join.
Emotional Well-Being: The frustration of not being understood can be incredibly challenging. S2C can alleviate this frustration, improving your child’s emotional well-being and overall quality of life.
Changing Lives for the Better
By embracing S2C, you open up a world of possibilities for your child. They will no longer be seen solely through the lens of their speaking abilities but rather recognized for their intelligence, creativity, and individuality. S2C can transform your family’s life, providing a bridge to better communication and understanding.
