Acupuncture utilises tiny needles to influence the body’s natural ability to heal. It taps into the body’s intrinsic intelligent energy, known in Chinese as Qi. By using a knowledge of the channel system within the body, the style of acupuncture practiced will help to remove pathogenic energy, strengthen the entire organ system and give the body time and space to heal.
This electricity is in every cell of your body, it is organised and alive. Like any electrical thing (think of your computer!), it can go wrong, flow the wrong way, become static or be too much or too little. This is the start of the disease process, and this is what acupuncture aims to help, promoting wellness and good health.
I have a Diploma in Acupuncture from the Scientific School of Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture (SSOMA) in Tunbridge Wells. The Dean (and my teacher) is Dr Dan Keown, formerly a doctor in Emergency Medicine, and author of the Amazon Bestseller Spark in the Machine as well as The Uncharted Body.
I have a 25 year background within the NHS, working as a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist specialising in blood sciences. I then worked more clinically as a Lead Transfusion Practitioner, and as a Service Manager for Theatres and Recovery. Due to ill health, I could no longer remain in this role and decided to study both Chinese Medicine and the Feldenkrais Method as they were both integral to my healing.
I am also a Level 2 ISA surf coach and hope the Feldenkrais Method will benefit my surf students. I am based in Penzance, Cornwall.
